Sandy Tapley

Everyone at Arbroath Football Club has been left saddened with the news that Lichtie season ticket and share holder Sandy Tapley sadly passed away yesterday morning.

Sandy first started going to Gayfield around 1970 when he and his wife Eileen moved from Friockheim into Arbroath.

Sandy’s devotion to the Lichties meant he even snuck out to watch Arbroath whilst Eileen was still in hospital after giving birth to their daughter, Arlene.

His affection for the Lichties has rubbed off with both Arlene’s teenage sons also now owning season tickets for Gayfield.

Even when Sandy wasn’t feeling too well and unable to make it down to Gayfield he would still make sure he watched the 36nilTV Highlights on a tablet given to him and set up by his family.

This past weekend was very hard for Sandy, but he still managed to tell his beloved family that his team had won 3-1!

Our club is nothing without our loyal supporters, both young and old and we are sad to lose another Lichtie family member.

We hope that same family will gather round Sandy’s family.

A much loved teacher at Warddykes in Arbroath, he influenced the lives of so many young people.

His passion for football was evident even in his career as he guided Warddykes to victories in the Watters Cup!

All our thoughts are with Sandy’s wife Eileen, daughter’s Karen and Arlene and the rest of Sandy’s family and friends.

Arlene’s sons are going to way wear maroon ties to the funeral in honour of Sandy who loved maroon.

Sandy’s funeral is planned for Thursday 23rd August at 11.30am

Rest in Peace Sandy
