Hamilton Accies 1 – 0 Arbroath

Arbroath’s luck in searching for their first Championship win wasn’t again on their side today as they narrowly lost out to Hamilton Accies.

There was very little between the sides in a very evenly matched first half with either team really creating many chances.

Fulham striker, Jean Pierre-Tiehi who is with Accies on loan missed the best chance of the first half when he turned and fired wide.

Arbroath’s run of bad luck continued as Colin Hamilton had to leave the field in the 38th minute. Colin had received treatment earlier but didn’t want to risk his injury and was replaced by Daniel Fosu.

In the 58th minute Thomas O’Brien was shown a straight red card by Referee David Munro for an apparent hand-ball in the box. Without seeing the replays it looked a strange one as Thomas seemed to fall onto the ball, but he was sent off and Steve Lawson hit a perfect penalty firing into the left hand side postage stamp.

Arbroath Manager Dick Campbell was bemused by the decision and was angry at the red card, but admitted Hamilton had the better chances and deserved to win the game.

Arbroath pressed and in the final 10 minutes were the better side, but Accies looked a real threat on the break and substitute striker Ryan One could had doubled their lead.

All in all, it wasn’t the best afternoon for Arbroath. No real clear cut chances created, and punished with a penalty.

A tough result for the Lichties, who will go again on Tuesday as they travel to Partick Thistle in the Premier Sports Cup 3rd Round.

C’mon the Lichties
