Dundee 4 – 2 Arbroath

Our 6 match unbeaten start to the season came to an end tonight as we lost out at the death to Dundee.

In front of a huge travelling support of 704 Lichties, we made a really bright start and almost took the lead with Dundee making a goal line clearance, but just before the break Dundee pounced on the counter attack as Arbroath lost possession on the edge of the Dundee box.

Dundee raced down the pitch and Paul McGowan found Luke McCowan who fired Dundee into the half time lead.

However the Lichties came roading back into the game 51st minute as Harrison Sharp fouled Michael McKenna. The Dundee keeper lucky to only be shown a yellow card, and Nicky Low showed great composure to net from 12 yards to draw the Lichties level.

Dundee went ahead again in the 64th minute, as Arbroath looked for a foul on Thomas O’Brien at the back post, the ball stayed in possession and Zak Rudden netted from close range.

Arbroath made a string of substitutes and started to get down the left wing through Bobby Linn and it was Linn whose corner kick was bundled in by Colin Hamilton in the 81st minute.

With 5 minutes remaining a cross from the right looked to give Arbroath the perfect opportunity but Dale Hilson just couldn’t get enough on it.

Arbroath were to pay the price as after losing possession, Dundee broke and Zach Robinson netted with a header, before another Arbroath mistake allowed Josh Mulligan to score in injury time to make it 4-2.

A tough lesson for the Lichties, but another resilient performance. It’s hard for the players who all worked today to then come up against full time players on a Friday night, but we pushed Dundee all the way and will be ready for next Saturday.
