Premier Sports Cup – Group E – Matchday 4 – Season 2022/2023

Saturday 23rd July 2022, Gayfield Park, Arbroath, 3pm kick off

We welcome Airdrieonians to Gayfield this afternoon for the final game of Group E in the Premier Sports Cup.

Arbroath, who sit on 9 points and have a goal difference of +6 will go through as Group Winners with a win or draw.

Airdrieonians, who sit on 7 points and have a goal difference of +5 need a win to go through. A draw, or a draw with a penalty shoot bonus point wouldn’t be enough.

Airdrieonians were one of the most exciting teams of League One last season, making the play-offs with their free flowing attacking football.

Despite a change in Manager and some players departing, the core of the squad are still there and there are many links to Arbroath with former players Bryan Prunty and David Hutton part of the coaching staff, whilst Craig Watson and Callum Smith have both played for Arbroath.

Arbroath may be without Ricky Little who suffered a groin strain last Saturday.

So Far Arbroath only have yellow cards for David Gold and Thomas O’Brien, with two yellow cards picked up in this competition resulting in a one-match suspension.

Arbroath last played Airdrieonians in our League One winning season of 2018/2019. The first game was a 3-1 win for Arbroath at Gayfield, before a 1-0 win away thanks to Ricky Little, then a Bobby Linn hat-trick sealed a 3-2 win at Gayfield, before Arbroath were defeated 3-0 on the second last game of the season.

With so much stake, it should be a very competitive but difficult match, but we hope with your support we can get there.

C’mon the Lichties!
