Arbroath 2 – 1 Elgin City

A goal deep in injury time by Steven Doris got the Lichties off to a perfect start in the Betfred Cup yesterday at Gayfield.

Shane Sutherland gave Elgin City the lead in the 29th minute the first half but Omar Kader equalised for the Lichties in the 44th minute of the first half after Bobby Linn curled in a cross.

Bobby Linn was denied giving Arbroath the lead in first half injury time after a fantastic save by Tom McHale who saved Linn’s 20 yard free kick.

Both sides had chances a plenty in the second half but as the game went on Arbroath’s Ricky Little suffered a bloody nose with Elgin City’s Darryl McHardy suffering with a suspected dislocated wrist.

As the game ran deep into injury time and a penalty shoot out looking like a cross from Omar Kader found Steven Doris who hit the ball into the net to give Arbroath the perfect start.
