Arbroath 1 – 0 Brechin City

A late goal by substitute Ryan McCord sealed another vital 3 points for the Lichties on Saturday at Gayfield.

Arbroath started the better of the two sides and dominated the opening 20 minutes but despite numerous openings the goal just didn’t come. This allowed Brechin to come back into the game and City went close with three dangerous balls which all flashed across the Arbroath goal but the first half ended goalless.

The second half was intense Arbroath pressure but again the goal just wasn’t coming. Substitutes Ryan Wallace and Danny Denholm were introduced in the 67th minute and as the Lichties started to play more football on the deck. It was however substitute Ryan McCord who entered the game in the 72nd minute who would be the Lichtie’s hero.

McCord latched onto a Linn cross just 10 minutes later as he headed past Patrick O’Neil to open the scoring. McCord had the chance to double his tally when Linn was fouled by Orsi in the 90th minute but he sent his penalty kick high and wide in an uncharacteristically moment.

The Lichties held on to record their first win in 2019 and keep their 11 point lead at the top of League One.
