Attendance – 1861

This fixture over the seasons has become a bit of a stalemate with very little between the two sides and today’s match was of a similar nature.

Arbroath without the suspended Thomas O’Brien were also missing Jason Thomson in defence so Mason Hancock made his full debut at left back whilst David Gold deputised at right back with Ricky Little Captain for the day and Colin Hamilton joining in in the centre of defence.

With Scott Stewart on the right wing, and Bobby Linn on the left, Luke Donnelly made a start in central midfield alongside Nicky Low with Michael McKenna just behind Daniel Fosu. A full start for Daniel who has been promoted to centre forward after his impressive display against Ayr United last weekend.

Despite it being summer and August on the Angus Riveria there was a strong wind, and Inverness attacked the Harbour end with the wind at their backs.

Colin Hamilton rescued Arbroath in just the 7th minute when he got to the goal line and cleared George Oakley’s angled chip.

Arbroath’s first real chance came in the 10th minute when Bobby Linn curled a fierce drive, but Mark Ridgers was well behind it.

Michael McKenna had a great chance in the 18th minute but again Ridgers denied Arbroath.

Much of the first half was played end to end but there were no real open chances for either team.

Just on the stroke of half-time and Arbroath had their best chance when McKenna latched onto a Linn cross, but Ridgers again was there, with Daniel Fosu ruled offside as he tried to net the follow up.

Fosu was impressive up front, and just after the restart was booked in controversial circumstances as Referee Colin Steven booked him for simulation as he was bundled off the ball by two defenders.

Arbroath were definitely pressing and Scott Stewart flashed a shot just a whisker wide of the post, before Nicky Low had a shot saved.

Nicky Low was wide of the Ridger’s right post, before substitute James Craigen hit another fierce shot at goal, but Ridgers was there.

Nicky Low hit a really powerful drive which Ridgers did really well to smother as Arbroath searched for an opening.

With 5 minutes to go another big moment as substitute Kieran Shanks tried to lob Ridgers. The ball took a deflection and as both players went for the bouncing ball, Ridgers missed and caught Shanks square in the face sending him to the ground, but Referee Colin Steven played on.

A James Craigen free kick and another Shanks drive in the final seconds were both dealt with by Ridgers who definitely helped his side earn a point.
