Steven Doris

Striker Steven Doris has today left Arbroath FC and makes the short move to Forfar Athletic where he will reconnect with former team-mate Stuart Malcolm.

Steven is the only player in our 141-year-old rich history to have won 3 league titles with the club, which guarantee’s Steven place in the history of our club forever.

Steven has had a long history with Arbroath FC having originally signed on loan from St Johnstone in November 2008 where he made 6 appearances and scored 2 goals.

Steven joined the Lichties permanently in June 2009 where he remained with the club until August 2012 in which time he played a pivotal part in winning the clubs very first league title in 2010/2011 as Arbroath won the 3rd Division with Steven scoring 16 goals.

The very next season Steven scored in the 87th minute at Parkhead which ensured a 1-1 draw with Champions at Celtic Park and enforced a replay at Gayfield. One of the club’s best results in recent history.

Steven left Gayfield for full time football at Dundee but returned on loan for 2 games in December 2013 but unfortunately picked up an injury but did score a goal on his 3rd Arbroath debut!

Steven was Dick Campbell’s first signing as he took over at Gayfield in the close season of 2016 and again Steven played a pivotal part in Arbroath winning Scottish League Two with 13 goals.

At the start of the 2017/2018 season Steven was in peak form, with dazzling displays in pre-season and the Betfred Cup, much to the frustration of the Premier League defenders he was battling with.

Just as the league season was getting under way Steven suffered a cruel injury to his cruciate ligament which cut his season short.

Steven went through a successful operation in Edinburgh and worked hard in his rehabilitation and we were all delighted to see Steven return to the Arbroath bench in October 2018 and then the moment we were all waiting for when Steven came on as a substitute and scored against Dumbarton after being out for 406 days.

In 2018/2019 Steven won his third Arbroath League Winner’s medal as he picked up the League One Winner’s medal in May.

This season Steven started the season off to a flyer with a goal against Hibernian followed by a double against Hearts in our pre-season friendlies before a 92nd minute winner against Elgin City in our Betfred Cup.

It was a typical cool finish from Steven, and like many of his goals for the club there was a dramatic element to it with the goal coming so late.

On top of the all the goals that Steven has scored for Arbroath FC it is Steven’s battling spirit that has long made him a legend to our supporters.

Chasing every ball down, no matter how much of a lost cause it may or may not have been and always challenging the defender or goalkeeper to battle and win the ball for his team-mates.

Arbroath FC Chairman Mike Caird went on record to thank Steven.

“I would like to thank Steven for his dedication and service to Arbroath FC. Not only a great player but a really nice guy who has given our supporters many, many moments to celebrate over the past decade.

Steven played a pivotal role in our very first league title in 2011 and has continued to excite the fans since. Who could forget his goal at Celtic Park, and then his goals in helping clinching the League Two trophy in 2016.

His goal on return from his cruciate injury was Roy of the Rovers stuff and to be the only player in our club’s history to own 3 Title medals shows why he will surely be a Arbroath FC Hall of Fame inductee in the future.

We all wish Steven the very best of luck in his move to Forfar.”

Steven is an Arbroath legend, history maker and always will be welcome back home at Gayfield Park.

Thank you Steven!

C’mon the Lichties
