Ladbrokes Championship – Game 18 – Season 2019 / 2020

Saturday 21st December 2019, Palmerston Park, Dumfries, 3.00pm kick off

The Lichties make the long trip down to Dumfries tomorrow for the final game of the first half of the season.

The two sides met on the opening day of the season as Arbroath were given a guard of honour ad the Ladbrokes League One Championship Flag was raised at Gayfield, although the game itself was a 0-0 draw.

Queen of the South sit just 3 points behind the Lichties, but have a game in hand with last weekend’s away tie at Greenock Morton falling late due to a waterlogged pitch.

The extra week off has allowed Stephen Dobbie more time on his return from injury with Darren Lyon and Dan Pybus also time to recover from concussion.

Queen of the South last played Partick Thistle where they suffered a 1-2 defeat, but a week earlier had defeated Dundee 2-1 at Palmerston.

The Arbroath players will have had a week to recover after the previous week was a gruelling 7 days with matches against Dundee, Ayr United and Dundee United.

Jason Thomson is getting closer and closer to a return to the starting 11 and Manager Dick Campbell will hopefully have a full squad to choose from.

It’s another huge game for the Lichties with only 3 points separating both sides in the league.

We hope you will be there to cheer us on!

Car Parking

Car parking is available in the Queen of the South Arena car park next to the ground. There will be some on street parking restrictions but there is plenty of other on and off street parking available around the ground.

Supporters Buses

Supporters buses will NOT be allowed to park in the Arena car park, therefore it is requested that buses/minibuses drop off their passengers in Terregles St/King Street and thereafter park on College Mains Road just off the roundabout with the A76 on the town bypass (adjacent to Curry’s/PC World, as the other side at Aldi is the access road to the ambulance depot and is extremely busy). Pick up should be the same location.

There are no on-going roadworks currently around Dumfries that may affect travel times to Palmerston Park. Fans should check the Traffic Scotland website at http://trafficscotland.org/index.aspx for confirmation of any delays.

Catering

Catering outlets and toilets will be available for use throughout the ground. Toilet and catering facilities are also available in the Arena prior to kick off. The café within the Arena offers a full menu and the bar under the Gates Stand will also be open for refreshments.

Search Policy

QOS have adopted a robust and thorough search policy for spectators entering the ground to ensure that ground rules and regulations are strictly adhered to, especially in relation to pyrotechnic devices and controlled containers. All bags will be searched and spectators presenting themselves for entry may also be subject to search. Spectators who refuse to be searched by stewards will be denied entry to the ground.

No Smoking

Palmerston Park is a non-smoking venue; this includes e- cigarettes and other such devices. Stewards are empowered to eject spectators who disobey these rules. Any person deemed to be under the influence of alcohol will be denied entry to the ground. This will be strictly enforced.

All spectators are required to abide by our acceptable behaviour policy and your cooperation would be greatly appreciated.

Palmerston Park

Palmerston consists of two terrace areas, behind each goal, and two stands, along each side of the pitch

Home fans occupy the Oakbank Services terrace, the Gates Power Transmission stand and some of the BDS Digital stand.

Away fans occupy the remainder of the BDS Digital stand and, for bigger games, the Terregles Street terrace.

As of September 2014, the official capacity of Palmerston is 8,690, including 3,377 seats.

By Car

From the North

  1. Come off the M74 at J15 (Moffat) and follow the A701 to Dumfries
  2. On entering Dumfries, follow this road through one mini-roundabout to the large roundabout on the A75
  3. Turn right onto the A75 (Dumfries Bypass)
  4. At the next roundabout take the second exit – signposted “Dumfries A76”
  5. Go straight across the first mini roundabout.
  6. At the next roundabout turn right onto Lochfield Road
  7. Follow this road round to the next mini roundabout which is the entrance to the car park, on the left

From the west

  1. Follow the A75 until you come to the “A76 Dumfries” turn off
  2. Follow from instruction 5 above

Sat Nav

  1. Set your sat nav destination to “Lochfield Road, Dumfries”
  2. Continue to follow Lochfield Road round to the mini roundabout which is the entrance to the car park, on the left

By Train

All trains come into Dumfries at the same station.

There are direct trains from Glasgow and there is also the option of coming via Carlisle. Alternatively, it can sometimes be more convenient to get off the train at Lockerbie and get the bus or taxi into Dumfries.

There is a taxi rank at the station, and the ground is approximately 5 mins by car.

Walking to the ground from the station takes around 20 minutes, using the most direct route :

  1. Come out of the station on the west side, into the main car park (directly outside the front of the Station Hotel)
  2. Walk round to the right of the Station Hotel and turn right onto Lovers Walk.
  3. Follow Lovers walk round the corner to the traffic lights at the T-junction
  4. Turn left at the traffic lights onto the Edinburgh Road
  5. Follow this road into town and round the corner (keeping Greyfriars church on your right) down onto Buccleuch Street
  6. Continue down to the bottom of Buccleuch Street
  7. Follow the On Foot directions.

The alternative is to go through the centre of town. This will take slightly longer but has more options for refreshment along the way :

  1. Come out of the station on the west side, into the main car park (directly outside the front of the Station Hotel)
  2. Walk up the hill, to the left of the Station Hotel, to the traffic lights
  3. Turn right at the traffic lights onto St Marys Street
  4. Continue on St Marys Street, past the Cairndale Hotel and council buildings.
  5. Continue onto English Street and follow this up the hill into town
  6. From here, you can take any street, as long as you keep walking in the same direction, you will come onto the High Street
  7. Follow the On Foot directions.

By Foot

The stadium is about a 10 minute walk from the centre of Dumfries. From the High Street, head towards Greyfriars Church and then down Buccleuch Street, or find the Whitesands and walk along it with the river on your left.

Then :

  1. Cross the Buccleuch Street bridge over the river, to the traffic lights.
  2. Turn right at the traffic lights, onto the Glasgow Road.
  3. Take the first left, onto David Street.
  4. Take the first right onto King Street
  5. Home Fans
  6. Follow King Street until you come to the Ice Bowl.
  7. Continue round to the right side of the Ice Bowl
  8. You are now at the ground and can either enter the Rosefield Salvage stand or Oakbank Services terrace from here, or walk round the back of the terrace to the Arena and Gates Power Transmission stand
  9. Away Fans
  10. Follow King Street but turn left just before the Ice Bowl
  11. Take the next right, which will take you behind the Ice Bowl to the away section of the Rosefield Salvage stand.

Saturday is a big game for the Lichties as we take on Queen of the South. It is a busy time of the year and it is a long trip from Arbroath but we hope we still have a strong and vocal support cheering on the team.

We hope you can make it along!

C’mon the Lichties!
