Inverness Caledonian Thistle 2 – 0 Arbroath

Arbroath suffered their first defeat on the road since the middle of November in Inverness last night.

Manager Dick Campbell kept faith in the starting XI that played so well on Saturday.

The first half didn’t really see either side create a clear cut chance but Arbroath probably edged the play with Lewis Banks having an angled drive saved and Thomas O’Brien heading wide from a Michael McKenna corner.

The second half started much the same way with Arbroath having the bulk of possession but as Arbroath attacked they lost the ball and the home side played a counter attack with Jay Henderson finding space down the right before crossing which was met by Nathan Shaw who opened the scoring.

The goal lifted Inverness and Arbroath seemed to tire as the home side took a firm grip of the game.

Manager Dick Campbell made attacking substitutions but in the 77th minute Steven Hetherington was deemed to have fouled Henderson and Scott Allardice scored from the spot.

Just two minutes later and Henderson was shown a straight red card for a bad foul on Michael McKenna.

Inverness defended well and Arbroath just couldn’t find the space to play.
