Hibernian 3 – 0 Arbroath

Arbroath suffered their first defeat in Group C this evening as they went down 3-0 to a strong Hibernian side.

The home side made the perfect start when they hit Arbroath on a quick counter attack as Scott Allan set up Florian Kamberi to fire home just after 3 minutes.

Hibernian enjoyed much of the possession in the first half with Arbroath guilty of giving away the ball too easily.

Bobby Linn did have a free kick saved by Chris Maxwell mid way through the first half.

Arbroath looked like they were going to make it to half-time at 1-0 but in the 43rd minute, Referee Bobby Madden awarded Hibernian a penalty kick.

Hibernian were attacking the Arbroath goal and Florian Kamberi hit an overhead kick over the bar but Madden then pulled play back and gave Hibernian a penalty much to the confusion of the Arbroath players.

Scott Allan made no mistake and made it 2-0.

Arbroath introduced Scott Stewart for Bobby Linn in the second half and Arbroath did have a much better second period with James Murphy also having a good game on his full debut.

Hibernian’s pace always looked a threat on the counter attack but Darren Jamieson was always on hand with assistance from his defence.

With just 3 minutes to go Hibernian added a third as substitutes Daryl Horgan and Fraser Murray combined with Murray adding the 3rd from close range.

A tough game for Arbroath who now welcome Alloa Athletic to Gayfield on Saturday.

Thank you to the 160 supporters who made the trip to Easter Road.

We have been made aware tonight of the problems in regards to the family ticket. We did publish the admission prices that were sent through to us by Hibernian and we are very sorry for those who were affected. We shall be communicating with Hibernian tomorrow.

Thank you again for your support.
