Arbroath 3 – 2 Airdrieonians

Yet another Bobby Linn hat-trick sealed 3 points today in a dramatic game at Gayfield. Bobby netted his 18th, 19th and 20th league goals of the season taking his tally up to 22 for all competitions.

Arbroath could have possibly scored after just 5 minutes but a combined effort by Gavin Swankie and Greig Spence was somehow bundled off the line before 5 minutes later a Bobby Linn free kick was saved on the line by David Hutton.

Airdrieonians however did take the lead when a break down the right hand side was swept into the box and struck past Darren Jamieson by Dale Carrick after 27 minutes.

Both Colin Hamilton, Darren Jamieson and Bobby Linn all were on the end of some late challenges with Grant Gallagher injuring himself in the process of fouling Linn and having to go off injured.

It was Linn who pulled the Lichties back into the game with another sweetly hit free-kick in the 41st minute to pull Arbroath back into the game.

(Unfortunately the GoPro had a major meltdown in the first half so the goalmouth scramble and free kick were missed)

Airdrieonians struck again just 7 minutes after half time with Darryl Duffy poking in from close range.

However just 7 minutes later and Jason Thomson won Arbroath a penalty kick after being bundled off the ball by Ryan Conroy.

Bobby Linn stepped up and made no mistake from the spot after 59 minutes.

Just 4 minutes later and the Lichties were awarded their second penalty as this time David Gold was sent flying after some neat play in the Airdrieonians box.

Bobby kept his cool and again thumped the ball into the net to make it 3-2 to the Lichties.

Darren Jamieson kept Arbroath in the lead with an outstanding save (his 3rd of the game) when he denied substitute Leighton McIntosh from close range.

Arbroath continued to attack as did Airdrieonians but in the end it was another dramatic comeback and win for the Lichties with now only 11 games remaining.

C’mon the Lichties!
