Arbroath 2 – 0 Elgin City

The Lichties got back to winning ways on Saturday with a comfortable 2-0 win over Elgin City in the Betfred Cup. Second half goals from Colin Hamilton and Thomas O’Brien moved the Lichties onto 5 points, just behind Alloa Athletic on goal difference who also have 5 points after grabbing the bonus point against Dundee United today as it ended 1-1 after 90 minutes.

Arbroath will conclude their Betfred Cup Group A on Wednesday evening as Ross County visit Gayfield.

Ryan Wallace was denied by this fantastic save by Elgin City’s Kyle Gourlay in the 36th minute. Wallace picked up the ball from Bobby Linn and hit this clever shot but Gourlay matched the strike with a stunning save.

Arbroath took the lead in the 52nd minute when Colin Hamilton headed in from close range after connecting to a Ryan Wallace cross. Hammy normally chips in with a good few goals throughout the season and we are delighted he is off the mark already.

Thomas O’Brien wasn’t to be undone by his defensive partner Colin Hamilton and he scored our second goal with a neat touch and strike at the back post from a Danny Denholm cross.

It seemed like our defenders were all trying to get on the scoresheet today! With goals already for Colin Hamilton and Thomas O’Brien it was the turn of Ricky Little but his header smashed off the post as we chased for our 3rd goal.
