Arbroath 1 – 1 East Fife

It was a feeling of two points dropped this afternoon at Gayfield as East Fife rescued a point at the death with a Mark Docherty penalty in the 91st minute.

The first half had been an even affair with Bobby Linn twice having a shot saved off the East Fife goal line and the Fifers having a goal ruled out for offside. In fact it was a slightly out of tune Brass Band who were making the most noise inside Gayfield.

The second half certainly favoured the Lichties and Arbroath were on the ascendency for most of the half but despite several goal mouth scrambles and 17 shots throughout the 90 minutes it remained goalless.

Arbroath survived a Mark Lamont drive which surprised everyone by hitting off the Arbroath bar and at the other end Ricky Little felt he was fouled in the box as a corner kick was swung in.

Substitute Leighton McIntosh opened the scoring in the 73rd minute with almost his first touch of the ball and it looked like the 3 points were destined for Gayfield.

The game could have been put beyond doubt when a lovely through ball put Gavin Swankie one-on-one with Goodfellow but the keeper forced the save.

East Fife seemed to take heart from the save and started to press the Lichties and won a penalty when David Gold was adjudged to have taken down Chris Duggan.

Mark Docherty stepped up and keeper David Hutton did get a touch but the strike was too powerful and East Fife equalised.

Arbroath remain 5th in the league and face Forfar Athletic at Station Park on Tuesday who pulled of an remarkable comeback to beat Ayr United 3-2.
