Hall of Fame Inductee – Steven Doris

The Arbroath FC Hall of Fame was introduced in 2015 and since then 17 past players and managers have been inducted into the Hall of Fame.

All the 17 inductees have contributed to the rich tapestry and history of the club. Creating the wonderful club that Arbroath Football Club is.

A club that means so much to so many people.

On Saturday 16th April at the Arbroath Hall of Fame Dinner sponsored by the The Townhouse Hotel Arbroath we inducted two new members into the Arbroath FC Hall of Fame and to add more wonderful memories to the illustrious group of legends already gathered.

It was the turn of Inductee Number 19

We fast forward to 2008 and Arbroath were languishing in the second division.

But the future was bright, Arbroath managed by club legend John McGlashan brought a young player in on loan from St Johnstone.

He made his Arbroath debut in a 2-0 win against Stirling Albion on 15 November 2008. A certain Barry Sellars also played that day and scored for Arbroath in 53 minutes.

His first goal came in a 4-0 win over Peterhead in December 2008 and he went on to play six league games that season. He then signed permanently for the 2009-2010 season and stayed with the club until 2013.

He was one of the scorers in the 4-1 victory over Montrose in 2011 which we clinched a historic first league success for the Lichties.

In December 2012 he scored the late equaliser in a 1-1 draw with Celtic at Parkhead in the Scottish Cup. A day that every Lichtie remembers and it is an iconic moment in the history of the club. Unfortunately the Lichties lost the replay 1-0.

After a period of great form interest was growing from other clubs and he subsequently went on trial at Birmingham City before signing for Dundee in the summer of 2013.

However, he returned to Gayfield on loan in 2013-14 before signing again on a permanent contract in 2016.

In September 2017 he suffered a cruciate ligament injury and didn’t make his return until October 2018, not surprisingly he scored within two mins of taking the field as a substitute against Dumbarton. A goal we all celebrated with extra joy knowing how hard he had worked to get back playing again after his injury.

He is the only Arbroath player to have featured in all three league winning teams –

Third Division (2010-2011); League Two (2016-2017) and League One (2018-2019).

He made 253 appearances for Arbroath in all competitions between 2008 and 2019, scoring 81 goals.

He was Arbroath’s top scorer in the league in 2011-2012 (with 21 goals) and 2012-2013 (with 11 goals)

A player who the fans took to their heart and loved and who contributed so many golden memories for the club.

It is an honour to announce that the 19th inductee into the Arbroath FC Hall of Fame is Steven Doris!
