Dick Campbell nominated for Scottish Football Writers’ Association Manager of the Year

The contenders to be named this year’s Scottish Football Writers’ Association Manager of the Year have been revealed with five gaffers making the final shortlist.

Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou is unsurprisingly among the nominees after completing turning around the Hoops’ fortunes in his first season in charge, winning the League Cup and on the brink of the Premiership title.

Malky Mackay also makes the cut having guided Ross County from relegation threatened to a top six finish, with a venture into European football potentially on the horizon.

County finished the last two seasons 10th, but the transformation this season has been tremendous with the club going from relegation battlers to the cusp of European football.

Hearts boss Robbie Neilson is the third and final nominee to come from the Premiership, having comfortably led the Jambos to third place and Scottish Cup final in their first season back in the top division.

Dick Campbell is on the shortlist too having led part timers Arbroath on a fairy tale season that could still yet end with a remarkable promotion.

One of Scottish football’s most popular and entertaining characters, Campbell has worked wonders at Arbroath.

While the Red Lichties have fallen just short of securing a remarkable promotion to the Premiership, their story certainly isn’t over yet

Rounding off the fab five is Scotland head coach Steve Clarke who has taken the national team to the World Cup play-offs and just two games away from a first finals since France 1998.

The winner will be announced next week and will receive his award at the annual Player of the Year dinner on Sunday, May 8 at the Doubletree by Hilton.
