Ladbrokes Championship – Game 27 – Season 2020 / 2021

Friday 30th April 2021, Gayfield Park, Arbroath, 7.45pm kick off

Arbroath return to Gayfield tonight for our final home match of this season’s 27 game Championship.

This is the biggest game of Arbroath’s season, but with their own future in their hands they know that a win or a draw means that they will be in the Championship next season for the 3rd straight season.

Ayr United and Greenock Morton who sit just a point behind Arbroath both need to win to secure their Championship future.

Ayr United travel up to Inverness and must win, or a draw combined with a draw in the Arbroath vs Greenock Morton would be enough for them to avoid the play-off, with Greenock Morton also safe if they draw at Gayfield if Ayr United suffer defeat in Inverness. Arbroath could still avoid the play-off if they lose, but Ayr United were to also lose.

The two matches between Arbroath and Greenock Morton have been very close so far this season with a goalless draw at Gayfield before a late Jack Hamilton header secured 3 points for the Lichties at Cappielow in January.

Since then Morton have brought in Gus MacPherson and Andy Millen as Manager and Assistant Manager and have recruited goalkeeper Jamie Butler, midfielder Stephen McGinn on loan from Hibernian and winger Justin Johnson, but have let James Wallace and Rabin Omar join Dumbarton on loan.

Morton have drawn their last two matches, which were both played at Cappielow. A goalless draw against Heart of Midlothian before coming back to draw against Alloa Athletic last weekend.

Arbroath will hope Lewis Moore will be available but other than Bobby Linn and Gavin Swankie, Manager Dick Campbell should have a full squad at his disposal.

With 7 goals in their last two games, Arbroath will be hoping to continue that goalscoring form going into tonight’s match.

Arbroath will need to show the same fight and character shown in the last 3 matches to get something from this very difficult fixture.

It will be another incredibly tough game for the Lichties, but the boys as always will give it their all for you.

C’mon the Lichties!
