Scottish Cup 3rd Round – Season 2021 / 2022

Saturday 27th November 2021, Gayfield Park, Arbroath, 3.00pm kick off

(The forecast is that Storm Arwen will have passed by 2am this evening and we are all set for our match tomorrow)

We welcome Gary Irvine and his Forfar Athletic to Gayfield tomorrow for our first competitive match since March 2019 in the same season that we crowned Scottish League One Champions.

Marc McCallum, Ross Meechan, Darren Whyte and Gary Irvine who played in that match are still at Station Park, whilst the Lichties still have 9 players from that game – Jason Thomson, Colin Hamilton, Ricky Little, Thomas O’Brien, Michael McKenna, Gavin Swankie, Bobby Linn, Luke Donnelly and David Gold whilst Dale Hilson and Steven Doris have changed clubs.

The teams last met in a pre-season friendly in September 2020 as we tried to return to football after the pandemic meant our leagues started later in the year.

Former Lichtie defenders Andy Munro misses out through suspension whilst Michael Travis also won’t be involved having joined Berwick Rangers on loan this week.

The Loons are in second place in League 2 having only lost 2 games all season and are hot on the tails of Kelty Hearts. Their recent good form has seen Manager Gary Irvine named SPFL League One Manager of the Month.

As for Arbroath, Dick Campbell will be doing all he can to make sure his players are fully focused on the match. Livingston and Falkirk have asked that Joel Nouble and Anton Dowds aren’t cup tied so there will be changes to the Arbroath Starting line up with both attacking players having to watch the match from the stand.

The game will come too soon for Nicky Low, but we are all hopeful that Nicky will be back involved with the team in the next few weeks.

If this game is level after 90 minutes there will be a replay which will be announced by both clubs.

Despite the rain and wind, the Gayfield pitch as always drains well and we are all set for tomorrow’s match.

It will be another extremely tough match but we hope you can get right behind the team from the very start.

C’mon the Lichties!
