Interview with Kevin Webster by Karen Fleming
Can you give us a career history? 1999-2001- Dundee F.C, 2001-2006- Montrose F.C, 2006- 2007- Forfar Athletic F.C, 2007-2008- Arbroath F.C Currently with Cove Rangers FC Were you disappointed to drop out of senior football when you left Arbroath and joined Cove in January? I left Arbroath because I moved up to Aberdeen with work and found the travelling from Aberdeen to Perth for training too much. I was disappointed to leave Arbroath but Cove is well run club and good team to play for, plus we won the league championship last season which was a great achievement. How has the disappointment of failing to join the Scottish League affected Cove? I don’t think it has affected Cove in any way as we are still one of the leading teams in the Highland League. How do you think the likes of Cove would fare in the Third division? I think Cove would have done fine, Annan have had a great start and they are the newcomers. I’m sure once Cove move to their new ground, any future applications will stand a better chance of being successful. There are a few ex-senior, and in fact a few ex-Arbroath players in the Cove team. Are there any who you think could do a job in the Senior ranks? Paul Coutts who has just signed for Peterborough is a very good player. He has signed a 3 year deal. There are a lot of good players in the Cove team and I'm sure giving the chance, they would manage the senior ranks. There is not a major difference in standard between the top teams in the highland league and many teams in the 3rd Division. Do you think there should be a pyramid system to allow new and deserving teams promotion and relegation from the Third division? Yeah, I definitely think the SFA should look into this, as previously said, some teams in the Highland League could hold their own in the 3rd Division no problems. What is the highlight of your career and is there any moment you’d rather forget? Highlight would be playing for Scotland under 18’s and also winning the Highland League. Great night out afterwards too! I don’t think there has been a major low point. There have obviously been ups and downs but I can’t think of anything majorly pants happening. I’m always happy anyways. Ask Roddy, he knows how busy I am! “All the best for the season lads”
