ON THE MARC

Captain Marc McCulloch speaks to Karen Fleming

The feeling in the dressing room after last Saturday’s game against Dumbarton was very much a feeling of disappointment.  After being 2-0 down at half time many might have felt that we had done well to get the draw.  However, the players were very aware that we might have gone on to win that game.  There is a real never say die spirit in the dressing room, to the extent that no one was panicking at half time; we felt that if we could use the wind advantage and the extra man we could get the three points.

I’ve never been involved in a team that has this much team spirit, and it is great to be part of.  The fact that we had four or five players out against Dumbarton and still managed to compete shows that the boys all have to do their best if they are to keep their place in the team.  The biggest fear a lot of the boys have at the moment is no so much the opposition; it’s the fear of having a bad game and loosing their place in the team.

Today we welcome East Stirling.  Make no mistake this will be another hard game, despite their league position.  We have had watched them many times, they work hard for each other and we will pay them the utmost respect.  They beat us on their last visit to Gayfield and they will play a part in deciding where the title goes in May, as they have still to play all the top teams.

A special mention this week must go to Ian Dobbins, who almost jumped out of the car on our way up to Gayfield last Saturday.  We were about five minutes from Arbroath when we passed a field of sheep and he saw two of them enjoying a “moment.”  I swear I’ve never seen him so excited, not even when he scored his first goal of the season last Wednesday. It was obviously a big moment in his life and the rest of the boys in the car were glad we were there to see him experience it, (then cane him about it all week!)
