In an unchanged team from the one which took a point in a no scoring draw away to Raith Rovers last Saturday, the manager's faith was rewarded when McKinnon scored the opener after a minute whit a low shot which whizzed past the home keeper. This lead was doublet seven minutes later when Bayne passed to Tait who got behind the defence on our right and his low cross was missed by John McGlashan but Paul Brownlie ran in to connect at the far post and push the ball home. We continued to play well and were unlucky not to score a third before half time when Cargill, who was our man of the match, had a great run through from midfield and his great shot was deflected onto the woodwork.
Arbroath continued to press forward in the second half and had a good penalty claim denied when Bayne was brought down in the St. Mirren penalty box by the home keeper. Disaster struck however 10 minutes into the second half when Quitongo scored following a great ball from the St. Mirren right which beat Hinchcliffe. Two minutes later the home side drew level when Ritchie brought down a player in the penalty box and they scored from the resultant spot kick. Just as the game was petering out for a 2 all draw, a Paul Brownlie last minute free kick was met by George Rowe who headed home for his first goal of the season and Arbroath's winner.
