The Buddies

Arbroath 0 - St Mirren 2

Team Lines

John Brownlie brought in Jim Mercer into the left midfield role for his first start following his recent absence due to injury. John Cusick was also introduced into the starting 11 whilst Paul Brownlie was on the bench having recovered from flu. The visitors started the game on the offensive but despite having numerous scoring chances they were unable to convert any due to poor finishing and another fine performance by Craig Hinchcliffe in the Arbroath goal. In 29 minutes, a corner from the St Mirren right was punched out by Hinchcliffe but only as far as a visiting player whose mishit shot beat Hinchcliffe to put the visitors ahead. In a rare attack before half time, David McInally ran up the left wing and his cross rebounded off of the bar with the visitors keeper beaten.

The second half saw a more even match but the home side did not create any clear cut scoring chances with the nearest effort being a George Rowe header. Gavin Swankie, Paul Brownlie and David Arbuckle replaced John Cusick, Jim Mercer and Graham Bayne respectively the home side failed to level the match. A few minutes from time, a John McGlashan back header beat Hinchcliffe and bounced off the post to Quitango, the St Mirren forward, who killed off the match with St. Mirren's second goal.
