Manager, John Brownlie, made 6 changes from the team which lost to East Fife in the CIS Cup on Tuesday and was rewarded when Paul Brownlie, playing in a right midfield role, got the ball in his own half and had a great run up the wing beating at least three defenders before slipping the ball to Bayne who scored in 7 minutes. Arbroath held out until half time with Hinchcliffe having two great saves to push the ball over the bar.
Two minutes into the second half saw John McGlashan pushed over in the penalty box as he rose to head the ball but the referee waved play on. Rovers took the lead in 68 minutes and then slotted away a 30 yard free kick to put them 2-1 ahead. Bayne missed a good chance to draw level in 84 minutes when the home keeper snatched the ball as Bayne tried to round him. Straight after this Rovers raced up field and scored their third goal.
