With Steve Florence suspended and McInally out for the rest of the season with a major leg injury, John Brownlie brought in Steven Moffat at left back alongside Tait, Rowe and Ritchie, Stevie Mallan retained his place in the starting line-up wearing the number 11 jersey again. Cargill and Cusick who had both been doubtful also made the starting 11.
The start on the match was marred, in my opinion, by some diabolical refereeing decisions which saw Andy Cargill brutally charged off of the ball with no award whilst, again in my opinion, any close contact by an Arbroath player on a Caley player resulted in a foul against Arbroath. Bayne, Mallan and McGlashan all had half chances in the first half but the closest we came to scoring, with the wind advantage, was just before half time when a Cusick free kick rebounded off of the bar with Nicky Walker beaten.
The second half continued along the same vein as the first with neither team excelling in what could only de described as an even match. Paul Brownlie appeared to have been instructed to support Moffat in the left back position which was a role which did not endear him to the home support. McKinnon, McAulay and Heenan were introduced, Hinchcliffe had a great save and as the match looked as it was petering out for a draw, a corner found Innes Ritchie who rammed the ball home late on in the game. Caley pushed Bobby Mann up front in a desperate attempt to get an equaliser but the home team held out to record a good win.
