Inverness Caley Thistle

Arbroath 3 - Inverness Caledonian Thistle 2

Team Sheet

With Jim Mercer not fully match fit after recovering from a leg injury, the manager brought in John Cusick for Colin McKinnon in midfield.

Playing towards the harbour end, in the first half, Arbroath started and were unlucky not to take the lead early on when they were awarded a free kick when John Cusick was upended outside the penalty box. Paul Brownlie took the kick which Nicky Walker, in the Caley goal, parried and the ball fell to Bayne whose effort came off the post and Rowe poked the ball home only to see the goal disallowed for an off-side decision. This setback did not affect the home team who took the lead in 19 minutes when Cusick collected the ball in midfield and ran through the visiting defence to round Walker to score. The visitors equalised before half time.

Heenan came on for McInally at half time and his first touch of the ball was from a great McGlashan pass which found Kevin on the right and his excellent cross was converted by Bayne. Alas this lead did not last long as the visitors cut through the home defence to equalise again. McKinnon and Gardner replaced Brownlie and Bayne and following a great piece of play by John McGlashan who beat off two defenders he crossed to see Colin McKinnon score the winner.
