The start of the match was delayed 10 minutes due to the Arbroath Team Bus having broken down on route to Brockville. The visitors brought in Brownlie on the right midfield role with Heenan returning from injury to take a place on the bench. The home side had an early chance whilst Bayne and Cargill both came close at the other end. the first half scoring deadlock was broken in 42 minutes when the luckless George Rowe headed a cross ball past Hinchcliffe to put Falkirk ahead.
Arbroath equalised 6 minutes into the second half when Bayne stabbed in a loose ball following some good lead up work by Cargill on the right. The visitors should have taken the lead two minutes later but following some good work by Bayne and McKinnon, John McGlashan shot wide. In 64 minutes Falkirk were awarded a penalty when George Rowe was adjudged to have deliberately handled in the area and despite Hinchcliffe diving the right way, the home team took the lead again. Fifteen minutes from time Arbroath equalised through McKinnon and just as it looked that the game would finish off a draw, McInally was booked twice in quick succession for fouls and as he headed for an early batch the home side scored a last minute winner.
