Substitutes:- Wight, McAulay (for Cusick), C McGlashan (for McDonald), Henslee, Steele (85 for Mallan)
Highlights:- With Kevin Heenan missing through injury, Colin McDonald
was brought in to line up with Mallan in the centre of attack whilst Paul
Brownlie moved onto the right wing. Stranraer started as if they intended to
avenge their defeat at Gayfield a couple of weeks ago but gradually Arbroath got
into the match. Their cause was not helped through injuries to both McDonald and
Cusick within minutes of each other mid way through the first half and they were
replaced by Colin McGlashan and John McAulay. Craig Hinchcliffe pulled of a
great save five minutes before half time and just on the break Mercer blasted
over from10 yards.
The start of the second half was pretty dull but Arbroath brought the game to
life when George Rowe slotted home a Mercer cross from the right. Stranraer
tried everything to get an equaliser but thanks to some resolute defending and a
couple of good saves by Hinchcliffe we held out to record an excellent victory.
