Highlights:-
Arbroath lined up with new signing, Colin McKinnon, on the right
wing in a 4-4-2 formation. The home team, got off to the best of starts when in
three minutes, a John McGlashan cross split the defence and Jim Mercer collected
the ball on the left and fired home to put us ahead. Stranraer tried hard to
draw level and were unlucky not to score when the ball was cleared off the line
and onto the bar. Five minutes before half time debut player, Colin McKinnon,
scored with a 20 yard shot which the visiting keeper failed to hold.
In the second half Arbroath had the better of the play and were unlucky not to
increase their lead. The visitors were reduced to 10 men when one of their
players was sent off following his second booking of the match. This did not
deter them and they pulled a goal back with 20 minutes to go and were unlucky
not to equalise when they hit the post but we held out for a 2-1 victory.
