Substitutes:- Wight, C McGlashan (for Mallan), Maughan (for Cusick), Brownlie (for Steele), Arbuckle
Highlights:- In front of the largest Gayfield crowd of the
season, Arbroath soon settled despite some early Berwick pressure and created
many chances during the first half but failed to take any. John McGlashan had at
least two opportunities whilst Heenan, who was having an excellent game on the
wing, and Mallan both had good chances. We were denied a penalty when Steele
appeared to be brought down in the penalty box before half time.
In the second half, Arbroath continued to push for the elusive opener and
Heenan, McAulay and Mallan all came close before John Cusick scored the opener
from a McGlashan cross. The game was tied up nine minutes later when Jim Mercer
headed home from a Mallan cross and the promotion celebrations began.
