Mental Health App

At Station Park (home of Forfar Athletic) on Saturday there was a support group launching a new app for those who are suffering or affected with mental health.

This App is produced for Angus Council, Dundee City Council and Perth & Kinross Council

It provides helpful info for those affected in any way by suicide with extensive contact details for services in Tayside as well as providing users with the ability to create their own safety plan.

Suicide is the biggest killer of men under 45 which is a staggering and very sad fact. Men in particular suffer from the stigma about talking about your feelings and opening up to anyone.

More and more famous sports men and women are now speaking out so that their own situations they have lived through can hopefully show to everyone else it is okay to talk about it.

Mental Health can slip under the radar as you can never truly tell how a person is feeling so it is so important that if you ever do need someone to talk to then you should reach out.

The website for the Suicide? Help! can be found here,

suicidehelp.co.uk

and if you would like to download the app you can find it here -

suicidehelp.co.uk/gettheapp.html

Remember there is always someone there to listen and to talk too.

Our Hall of Fame and Championship Winning Celebration Dinner which will take place on Friday 22nd September 2017 starting at 7.30pm

After two hugely popular Hall of Fame Gala Dinners we return for our 3rd year with a special celebration to also recognise and celebrate our League 2 Championship Title.

The Club is extremely proud of our history and it is fitting that Arbroath FC recognise the players and managers who have contributed to the Club’s history and those who were triumphant last season.

The evening will take the form of a Dinner which will be held within a Marquee which will be erected on the pitch at Gayfield Stadium. Guests will enjoy a lovely 3 Course Dinner which will be followed by a variety of evening entertainment.

Host and Compère for the evening Sheriff Lindsay Wood will be joined by special guests Peter C. Brown and Paul Reid with many Lichtie Legends also in attendance.

Peter is One of Scotland’s best after dinner speakers and Paul is a Comedian and football impressionist.

The newest Hall of Fame inductee’s will be announced after being voted in by the supporters from an online poll.

The 3 new inductee’s will join John Edward “Ned” Doig, Albert Henderson, Tom Cargill, Bob McGlashan, Dave Easson, Ian Stirling, Jimmy Jack and Paul Sheerin.

Arbroath FC are continued to be backed by loyal local sponsors and we are extremely grateful for Thornton’s Law who are the main sponsor of the Hall of Fame Dinner.

“Legal Advice focused on you” - www.thorntons-law.co.uk
Tickets for this celebration are priced at £45 and tables will consist of 10 places.

This is a great evening to spend with fellow Lichties and there are normally several Lichtie Legends in attendance.

Arbroath Football Club - Official added 4 new photos.

Forfar Athletic 0 - 5 Arbroath - Summary

Arbroath thumped Angus rivals Forfar Athletic 5-0 today at Station Park which moves them up to joint 2nd in the league.

Not only did the Lichties secure the 3 points but it now means we have went an incredible 18 games undefeated away from home in the league.

In a match that the Lichties dominated it took some great saves from former Lichtie Marc McCallum in the Forfar goal to keep out the Arbroath attack, in particular Danny Denholm who was denied twice by McCallum.

The Lichties were awarded a penalty just before half time when Simon Mensing took out Thomas O'Brien and Ryan McCord stepped up to give take the lead into half time.

Minutes into the second half and a Colin Hamilton header came off the post which allowed Thomas O'Brien to absolutely smash a back post volley past McCallum to give the Lichties the lead.

It felt like Christmas at times as the Forfar defence started to make mistake after mistake and Ryan McCord took full advantage to slot the ball past McCallum in the 67th minute.

Only 2 minutes later and the Forfar defence had McCallum to thank as he pulled of a stunning save as Omar Kader was gifted the ball at the back post.

Substitute Kane Jay Hester was only on the pitch less than 60 seconds before he added a 4th, and then Hester was again involved as won a penalty in the 90th minute as he outpaced Mensing who sent him tumbling.

Bobby Linn stepped up and hit a shot down the middle to give the Lichties a fantastic away win which left the large traveling support very happy!

C'mon the Lichties!

Forfar Athletic vs Arbroath - Match Preview

Match Day 06 - Ladbrokes League 1 - Season 2017 / 2018

Saturday 16th September 2017, Station Park, Forfar, 3.00pm kick off.

The Lichties make the short trip to Station Park as once again we meet Gary Bollan’s Forfar Athletic. Last season of course seen a battle between the two clubs for the Championship with the Lichties being successful on Helicopter Saturday.

Forfar have had a huge change in personal over the summer and have former Lichties Marc McCallum, Scott McBride and Dylan Easton in their ranks alongside Michael Travis with Andy Munro on loan at Clyde.

Of course there will be a warm welcome to Gavin Swankie, Thomas O’Brien and Danny Denholm who all moved from Station Park to Gayfield over the summer but all 3 players will have a point to prove against their old side.

Forfar welcome back Mathew Aiken after he served a one match suspension but will still be without goalkeeper Grant Adam.

Arbroath manager Dick Campbell must revitalise his side after a 50 minutes killed the Lichties impressive start against Albion Rovers last weekend. Steven Doris’s injury is not as bad as initially feared but he will still be missing for the next few matches, alongside Josh Skelly and Bryan Prunty who are both a few weeks away yet.

This means that that Arbroath will rely on the attacking options of Danny Denholm, Gavin Swankie, Kane Hester, Bobby Linn and Omar Kader to lead the attack.

It will be another tough derby match when forms goes out the window. We hope to see a large amount of Lichties there backing the team!

Forfar Athletic Arrivals;
Patrick Cregg (St. Patrick's Athletic),
Dylan Easton (Clyde),
Scott McBride (Albion Rovers),
Marc McCallum (Plymouth Argyle),
Simon Mensing (Airdrieonians),
Mark Millar (Livingston),
Rodrigue Nanitelamio (PFK Spartak Pleven),
Ousman See (Edinburgh City),
Josh Peters (Livingston, loan),

James (Jim) Liddle

Everyone at Arbroath Football Club were deeply saddened to hear that James (Jim) Liddle sadly passed away early this week.

Jim was a great supporter of the Lichties and a real gentleman. He was a great friend to many people, a loving husband of Janet and father of Colin and father-in-law to Linda and a brilliant grandad to Rylee.

It is always extremely sad we lose one of our Lichtie family and everyone at the club would like to pass on their deepest condolences and thoughts to his family.

His Funeral service will take place on Monday 18th September at 10.30am and the Parkgrove Crematorium in Friockheim. All family and friends are invited and donations, in lieu can be made at the Crematorium door for The Diabetic Society.

Rest in Peace Jim. You are in our thoughts.

David RuxtonSad news but fond memories of Jim and Janet - Jim was a great friend of my Dad from when they worked in Frasers - and they were our neighbours when we were growing up in Glen Isla Drive - many happy times touring round the grounds and pubs of angus following the Lichties in the seventies. My mum sends her regards too.

It is only 9 days until our Hall of Fame and Championship Winning Celebration Dinner which will take place on Friday 22nd September 2017 starting at 7.30pm

These can be obtained by contacting the Club on 07864-195158 or 01241-872157 or by emailing info@strathmoreeventservices.co.uk

Thank you again for your support and C’mon the Lichties
