Raith Rovers vs Arbroath - Match Preview

Match Day 25 - Ladbrokes League 1 - Season 2018 / 2019

Saturday 16th February 2019, Stark’s Park, Kirkcaldy, 3.00pm kick off

Arbroath travel to Kirkcaldy tomorrow to take on John McGlynn’s Raith Rovers for the biggest match of the season - well until the next one!

There are 13 huge games remaining but as all season we are just taking one game at a time and focusing on 3pm on Saturday afternoon.

Both Arbroath and Raith Rovers have dropped points over the last 5 games with the Lichties picking up 8 points out of 15 with wins over Brechin City, Stenhousemuir and then draws against Montrose and Stranraer and a defeat to Forfar Athletic.

Where as Raith have picked up 5 points out of 15 with a win over Stenhousemuir, draws against Airdrieonians and Forfar Athletic and defeats against East Fife and Brechin City.

This has allowed Forfar Athletic to draw level in 2nd place, albeit with a game in hand while East Fife just sit 2 points behind 2nd place with a game in hand. It is fair to say the final run in to the end of the season and both ends of the table is exciting for the neutral.

Raith Rovers Team News

Raith Rovers have brought in 4 new players since our last meeting but suffered a huge blow when star striker Lewis Vaughan was ruled out for the season after requiring an operation on his cruciate.

Former East Fife striker Chris Duggan also could be missing with a groin injury but top scorer Kevin Nisbet is expected to return after coming off early against Hibernian in the Scottish Cup with a tight hamstring.

Arbroath Team News

The Lichties should be at full strength going into this tie but Dick Campbell indicated in his post match interview on Tuesday that there could be changes made to his starting 11 for the trip to Stark’s Park.

We of course always are grateful for your support and look forward to a large and vocal support tomorrow in the McDermid Stand.

C’mon the Lichties!

Arbroath 1 - 1 Stranraer

Arbroath couldn't find the winning goal this evening as a determined Stranraer continued their good run of form at Gayfield as both sides settled for a point.

The point does extend the Lichties lead at the top to 13 points with only 13 games remaining thanks to Bobby Linn's 26th minute strike which was his 17th goal of the campaign.

A stunning save from Darren Jamieson in the first half denied Joao Victoria from close range with Greig Spence also hitting the bar for the Lichties with Michael McKenna coming close twice in the first half.

The second half definitely wasn't a classic and Stranraer equalised in the 66th minute. Darren Jamieson made a brilliant save from a flashing Grant Anderson header, but Kyle Turner was quickest to the rebound and fired low into the net.

Substitutes Ryan Wallace and Ryan McCord made a positive difference but Stranraer had a late chance to snatch the win but were again denied by Jamieson.

A tough game away on Saturday as we travel to Raith Rovers but our destiny is still very much in our own hands.

Poor second half too many long balls and in the end lucky to get away with a point.

Arbroath vs Stranraer Mascots

We did have two young footballers who did enjoy their afternoon as they braved the wind to be our matchday mascots.

We welcomed 7-year-old Rhys Sim who ran out with Captain Ricky Little. Rhys is the son of Arbroath Director and Treasurer Robert Sim and was watched on by his mother, Louise Sim.

Rhys attends Lochside Primary School in Montrose and his favourite player is Bobby Linn.

We also welcomed 12-year-old Liam Mahoney who is from York and was up in Arbroath with his father Sean Mahoney whose late mother was from Arbroath.

Liam attends Manor Church of England School in York and also names Bobby Linn as his favourite Arbroath player.

Sean used to attend Arbroath games every year as a youngster as they came back to Arbroath on Holiday.

Despite the weather we hope both boys and their families enjoyed their day!
