Arbroath 4 - 3 Celtic XI

Arbroath recorded victory over a Celtic XI today at Gayfield thanks to a Danny Denholm hat-trick and a debut goal from Greig Spence as Damien Duff took charge of a young Celtic team for the first time.

Arbroath handed a debut to new signing Greig Spence with several players also enjoying a full 90 minutes.

Celtic took an early lead when Darren Hill was adjudged to have condeded a penalty kick with Armstrong Oko-Flex scoring from the spot, but the Lichties were soon level with Danny Denholm scoring his first of the game.

Danny gave the Lichties the lead shorty after firing in a Spence cutback with precision before Spence himself grabbed a goal of his own to make it 3-1 from close range giving the Lichties a 3-1 half time lead.

Danny Denholm completed his hat-trick early in the second half this time through a header as Arbroath were well in control.

However substitute Karamoko Dembele won a penalty for Celtic soon after coming on allowing Armstrong Oko-Flex to net his second of the game.

Celtic pulled another goal back as substitute Grant Savoury netted as Arbroath appealed for offside but it wasn't enough as the Lichties won.

Great performances from Danny Denholm and Ryan McCord with Steven Doris and Greig Spence linking up well up top.

Manager Dick Campbell was very happy with his side's performance and the goals scored. He added that he didn't want to risk any of the players on the bench as most were nursing niggles.

A great run out and lots of goals!

There will be GoPro clips of the goal uploaded later.

EaziLawn and Arbroath FC - Gayfield upgrades & 10% Discount for Arbroath Season Ticket Holders

Good friends of the club, EaziLawn Synthetic Grass have again helped us make upgrades to the Gayfield pitch.

We now have EaziLawn synthetic grass installed down the channel for the assistant referee in front of the main stand.

The synthetic grass now also extends into both the home and away dugouts, to the edge of the tunnel and gives us an all weather surface which is low maintenance and will look good all year round!

This now means both channels for the assistant referees are covered in EaziLawn Synthetic grass after they kindly installed the channel on the far side last season.

EaziLawn have teamed up with Arbroath FC to give our supporters a very generous deal in taking 10% off any Eazilawn installation if you are a 2018/2019 season ticket holder.

The installation must be within 300 miles of the EaziLawn Dundee base and must be carried out during January 2019.

EaziLawn who are a division of LeisureTec Surfaces are based in Dundee and are one of the largest installers of artificial gardens in Scotland.

EaziLawn can totally transform a front or back garden from a tired looking area covered in weeds and moss into a luxurious looking surface that will be the envy of next door neighbours 365 days a year.

The old turf is removed, a new base in installed then the EaziLawn surface laid. It is truly a low maintenance garden!

The company is delighted to offer any Arbroath FC season ticket holder for the 2018/19 season a 10% discount off any EaziLawn installation – this fantastic saving may pay for the cost of your season ticket!

The installation must be within 300 miles of the EaziLawn Dundee base and must be carried out during January 2019.

Greig Spence

Arbroath FC are delighted to announce the signing of prolific striker Greig Spence.

Greig moves to Gayfield from Alloa Athletic and the 26 year-old has agreed a 18 month contract.

Greig has been involved in football from a very young age and played for the Rangers Youth Team before moving to Alloa Athletic where he broke into the first team at the age of 16.

A move to Celtic in 2009 for a six figure fee was disrupted by injury before a move to Hamilton Academical on loan allowed Greig to get back on the goal trail and first team action.

After leaving Celtic in 2012 Greig has enjoyed 2 spells with Raith Rovers, a prolific season with Cowdenbeath and another 3 spells with Alloa Athletic.

In total Greig has scored 106 goals in 303 appearances and we look forward to him adding to his tally at Gayfield!

Come along to Saturday’s friendly at Gayfield against a Celtic XI which is now free entry to all to see Greig make his Arbroath debut.

Welcome Greig!

Kane Hester

Arbroath striker Kane Hester has today completed a move to Elgin City.

Kane will reunite with Elgin Assistant Manager and former Lichtie Keith Gibson who knows Kane well after taking him on loan at Broughty Ferry during the 2016/2017 season.

Kane has long been a favourite with the Lichtie support but with Arbroath current top scorers in all of the SPFL and the team playing so well it has been hard to break into the team.

19 year-old Kane joined the Lichties in July 2015 when he was signed by Todd Lumsden from Arbroath Vics after scoring 27 goals in one season.

Kane made an instant impact by scoring against Dundee United on his debut followed by the winner against Exeter City then a double against Fraserburgh in pre-season friendlies.

He went on to score against Forfar in the Forfarshire Cup then netted against Clyde, Stirling Albion, Queen’s Park and Berwick Rangers making 3 competitive starts and 23 appearances from the bench.

In the 2016/2017 season Kane netted against East Fife in the Irn-Bru Cup but only made 2 competitive starts and 9 substitute appearances but had a spell with Broughty Ferry on loan before joining Montrose Roselea until the end of the season.

Kane scored against Aberdeen in the first pre-season friendly of the 2017/2018 season before netting in the league against Albion Rovers, Forfar Athletic and Airdrieonians making 14 appearances from the bench.
Kane also went out on loan to Albion Rovers in the second half of the season where he made 7 appearances and scored against Stranraer and Ayr United.

This season Kane scored a spectacular goal against Heart of Midlothian at Gayfield and then notched another goal against Huntly during pre-season before scoring against Alloa Athletic and Ross County in the Betfred Cup and then Montrose in the league. Kane made 5 starts this season and another 5 from the bench.

A brief loan spell with East Kilbride and then with Montrose Roselea ended at the end of the 2018 with Kane returning to Gayfield where he has been on the bench for the last 2 games.

However with Kane desperate to play first team football a move to Elgin City has been agreed.

Kane has been a professional on and off the field and juggled his football career whilst also working for the Fire Service and always been extremely popular with his team-mates and supporters alike.

We wish Kane all the very best in the next chapter of his football career and who knows, maybe one day he will return to Gayfield!

Good luck Kane-o!

C’mon the Lichties!

All the best wee man bags of talent to score goals just haven’t had the rub of the green unfortunately and the good fortunes of the club in recent years has made it just that wee bit to much to break in I have no doubt given a good run in the team at Elgin you will score bags of goals and wish you all the very best

Arbroath Football Club - Official shared SPFL's post.

SPFL Team of the Week - Gavin Swankie

Congratulations to Gavin Swankie who has this week been named in the SPFL Team of the Week for his majestic midfield performance on Saturday which helped us to a 4-1 win over Stenhousemuir!

MC - Gavin Swankie (Arbroath)

Both Bobby Linn and Ryan Wallace hit doubles in Arbroath's 4-1 win at Stenhousemuir but it was their veteran midfielder who really caught the eye.

Swankie barely wasted a pass and was at the heart of everything as the leaders extended their advantage to 13 points in Ladbrokes League 1.

GoPro Goal - Bobby Linn 58th minute

Bobby Linn scored his 2nd of the game, and this time it was directly from a corner kick! Is there anything Bobby can't do?

This double takes Bobby up to 18 goals in all competitions for the season!

Go Pro Goal - Ryan Wallace 52nd minute

However the supporters didn't have long to wait as Ryan Wallace added a brilliant 3rd goal in the 52nd minute from this tight angle after being played in by Luke Donnelly.

By this time though I think the supporters chips were flown in the air!

Jason Thomson headed in what he thought was our 3rd goal and despite all of the ball looking like it was over the line, the goal wasn't given.

Although our supporter did well not to drop his chips!
