The Club wish to apologise for the disruption to catering
services during the St Johnstone match. Due to flooding of the facilities as a
result of the overnight torrential rain, there were some issues regarding
electrical safety.
Arbroath 4 Cove Rangers 0
The Lichties fielded a mixture of trialists, youths and a sprinkling of experience in this comfortable win over Cove. Bryan Scott, Paul Watson and trialist centre back Alan Campbell made it 3-0 by half time and Andy Reilly added a 4th late on. Talking point of the match was when Cove number 8, Paul Coutts, was red carded for a reckless challenge in the first half. Arbroath always looked comfortable and Cove, who included ex Lichties Craig Cooper and Kevin Tindal and former Dundee Utd defender Scott Paterson never troubled David Currie in the Arbroath goal.

Tuesday 17th July, Arbroath 0 Dundee 1
Trialist Andre Martins, struck as early
as 4 minutes in this friendly at Gayfield when he lobbed the ball over the head
of Scott Morrison. Throughout the game, the Dees looked a well organised side
but failed to capitalise further on their advantage. In the second half, light
began to deteriorate as the thunder approached and Arbroath began to become more
of a threat. Alan Brazil looked particularly lively and linked up well with
Tosh. Recent signing, Chris Hegarty, also showed some nice touches. As they game
drew to a close, Paul Tosh had a goal chalked off for offside and then with a
minute remaining found himself clean through with only the substitute keeper,
Samson, to beat. Tosh tried to lob the ball over the keeper from a few yards out
of the box but Samson blocked the effort by what the referee deemed to be a
hand. Being adjudged to be a deliberate prevention of a goal scoring
opportunity, the referee red carded the replacement goalie which will mean
Samson missing the first SFL match of the season. The resultant Barry Sellars
free kick was saved by stand in goalkeeper Paul Dixon and Dundee held on for the
1-0 win.
Arbroath - Morrison, McMullan, Ferguson, Raeside, Tully,
Smith, Sellars, Webster, Watson, Tosh, Bryan Scott. (Black, Hegarty, Brazil and
trialist Stuart MacKay came on 2nd half)

Forfarshire Cup Final,
Arbroath 2 St Johnstone 3
The Lichties started brightly but the Saints then started to exert their
dominance and Arbroath were 3-0 down at half time with 2 goals from Dutch
striker Dyron Daal and a fine shot from Peter McDonald who latched onto a Paul
Sheerin through ball. In the second half, the Lichties gradually crept into the
game as St Johnstone appeared to tire and lose organisation. On 66 minutes, Alan
Brazil met a fine cross from the right that Kevin Webster had sent in. The
former Aston Villa man calmly chested the ball down and fired past Alan Main. 6
minutes later a scrappy clearance found Paul Watson at the left hand edge of the
box and he rifled a low shot into the net. Arbroath then had chances to send the
game into a penalty shoot out when Webster ran through and tried to curve a ball
around the keeper into the top left of the goal. The ball seemed to be heading
goalward but dipped away at the last moment. Paul Tosh also had a great
opportunity when the ball landed in front of him but his tame effort did little
to trouble the Saints custodian. St Johnstone held out and lifted the trophy.

Jamie Bishop won the Supporters Club Player of the Year award
THIRD DIVISION MANAGER OF THE MONTH AWARD
Arbroath boss, John McGlashan, has picked up his first SFL Third Division Manager of the Month Award of the season following a busy schedule that saw the Gayfield Park club record six victories and a draw during an action packed 29 day period. The Red Lichties started the month by defeating local rivals Montrose before defeating Elgin City and East Stirlingshire both home and away, drawing with Dumbarton before finishing the month in style by winning 3-0 at Cliftonhill against Albion Rovers.

ARBROATH AIM TO END LONG WAIT by Fraser Clyne ©
One of the longest waits in Scottish football history could be over if Arbroath win their remaining
two league games of the season.
The Red Lichties, founded in 1878 and participants in the Scottish Football League since 1921, are on the verge of winning their first ever title.
Of the current Scottish League members, only Peterhead and Elgin City, both of whom joined as recently as 2000-2001, are listed alongside Arbroath as never having won a divisional championship.
There has been no joy in Cup competitions either, with just one Scottish Cup semi-final appearance (a 2-0 defeat by Aberdeen in 1946-47) and one League Cup semi final (a 3-0 loss to Third Lanark in 1959-60).
The only national competition the Angus club has won was the Scottish Qualifying Cup, and that was back in 1903 when Albion Rovers were beaten 4-2 at Dens Park.
But the success-starved Arbroath fans are on the verge of seeing their club make history.
The Gayfielders currently lie second in the Third Division table, just two points behind Berwick Rangers.
And victories over Berwick and East Fife over the next two weekend's would secure the top prize no matter what happens elsewhere.
Arbroath have been promoted on six previous occasions, but always as runners-up.
In 1934-35 they went up to the top Division after finishing two points behind Third Lanark in Division Two.
The Red Lichties more than held their own in Division One over the next four seasons until 1939 when World War Two brought an early halt to proceedings.
After the War, Arbroath fans were dismayed when their side was controversially put back into Division Two while clubs such as St Mirren and Queen's Park, who had finished below the Lichties in season 1938-39, kept their places in the top league.
Promotion was not achieved again until 1958-59, this time behind Ayr United. Relegation followed twelve months later.
Arbroath clawed back into the top Division in 1967-68, again finishing second, this time to St Mirren, but the stay upstairs was again short-lived.
The Lichties came closest to winning the Division Two title in 1971-72 when Dumbarton pipped them on goal average.
League reconstruction in 1975-76 marked the beginning of a long-lasting decline in Arbroath's fortunes as the club slipped through the divisions.
I
t wasn't until 1997-98 that promotion was achieved again, this time from Division Three to Division Two behind champions Alloa Athletic.
And in 2000-2001 the Lichties moved up into the First Division behind Partick Thistle before once more slipping down the levels.
