Arbroath FC are delighted to announce the appointment of Paul Sheerin as Player/Manager.
Sheerin (35) was released by St Johnstone at
the end of the season, began his career with Alloa Athletic before heading
to Southhampton.
He then had a spell in Sweden before seeing service with, among others,
Aberdeen and Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
Sheerin was in the running for the job after John McGlashan resigned in
November, but lost out on that occasion to former Hearts, St Johnstone and
Hamilton defender, Weir
Paul said: "I was delighted that the board
had kept me in mind from the interview I
had in October because it was the first
one I have ever did in football. We are not going to make any rash
promises but I definitely hope that next
season we will be a challenging club
even though it can be hard to bounce
back after relegation. I am more than happy with the players
that I already have here and I hope to
bring in a few new faces too. I have been speaking to a couple of
people about the position of assistant
manager and it will be somebody
experienced who will be able to run
things if I am playing."

AFC Chairman (right) & Vice-chairman welcome Paul

Best wishes for the game East Fife came from Josh Caird, son of Vice
Chairman Mike Caird, who lives in the Spanish town of Empuriabrava, which is
about 100 km north of Barcelona. 21 year old Josh, who has worked at Skydive
Empuria for the past 2 years and has completed over 1000 jumps, leapt out of
the plane at 13,000 ft in an Arbroath shirt to promote Arbroath Football
Club to his Spanish skydiving mates..
Josh said, "when I was home earlier in the
year I spoke to my dad and told him I wanted to skydive in an Arbroath
shirt, and with the important East Fife match on Saturday coming up thought
this would the ideal time to do it. Although it was a lovely sunny day on
the ground it was minus 20C when I left the plane!"
Josh who specialises in Free Flying, that is
skydiving feet or head down, was heard to shout "Come on the Lichties" as
he sped to the ground at over 100mph!
We
ask fans to send in photo's of themselves for future programmes with the
most unusual location that they have worn an Arbroath kit in.?

IRN-BRU kicks off a
PHENOMENAL New Deal with The Scottish Football League……..
Scotland’s Soft Drink
Renews Sponsorship of the SFL Championship

IRN-BRU, Scotland’s
favourite soft drink, and The Scottish Football League at a Press Conference
on Thursday 18th February announced that their partnership will continue for
another three years, until the end of season 2012/13.

The new deal was unveiled at
Hampden Park by A.G. Barr’s Head of Marketing, Adrian Troy, and SFL Chief
Executive, David Longmuir. The agreement, which will commence at the start
of the 2010/11 season, is worth in excess of £3 million over the course of
the sponsorship and will comprise of both financial investment and added
value activity.
Both parties announced that
they are looking forward to continuing to build on the investment and
development the previous sponsorship deal has provided at grassroots level
and also promised fans that there will be several exciting new initiatives
introduced during the new sponsorship in which they can get involved with to
help their local club.
Adrian Troy commented: “We
are delighted and proud to be extending our sponsorship of The Scottish
Football League Championship. The SFL and IRN-BRU are a great partnership
for one another with their shared strong Scottish heritage and community
involvement. The partnership over the last two and a half years has proved
a very successful one for us, helping us build IRN-BRU at a national but
also a community level. We hope that we have been
able to make significant contribution to the League not only through
financial support but also throughout marketing and promotional activity.
We look forward to working with the SFL over the next three years and we are
already working on a range of exciting new initiatives, which clubs and fans
nationwide can enjoy.”

David Longmuir, Chief

The Scottish Football League, I am delighted Scotland’s best loved and
iconic brand, IRN-BRU, will continue to support the League. The two brands
have a long and established history in Scotland and are a part of daily life
for many people throughout the country. It is fitting that this successful
partnership will continue. Our partnership with IRN-BRU has worked hard to promote and develop the League in communities
throughout the country and I am sure clubs and fans across the country
welcome this exciting news. I look forward to continuing our hard work with

A REVIEW OF LEAGUE ATTENDANCES BY FRASER
CLYNE ©
Slight Improvement in Crowds
By Fraser Clyne (c)
Promotion to the Second Division didn’t do
much to attract more people through the Gayfield turnstiles last season. The
average home gate of 636 for league matches was only marginally up on the
previous season’s 612 and is still lower than in 2006-07 when home crowds
averaged 735.
For the first time in many years the 1,000
tally was never achieved. The highest home crowd was 921 for the March 2009
meeting with championship-chasing Raith Rovers. The lowest home crowd was
411 for the visit of struggling Stranraer in November 2008.
Champions Raith Rovers, not surprisingly,
attracted the best average of 2,225. The Kirkcaldy side also drew the five
biggest crowds of the season. Rovers’ final home match with Arbroath, when
the championship trophy was presented, was watched by 4426 people – the
second biggest turnout of the season in the Second Division.
Relegated Stranraer, with an average home
crowd of 366, attracted nine of the ten lowest crowds, including the 228 and
277 who watched the two matches with Arbroath at Stair Park.
