After fighting off interest from several other Clubs, John McGlashan is delighted to have agreed terms to bring Steven Doris back to Gayfield for next season. Steven had been on loan late last year from St Johnstone and played an important part in turning a losing streak into a run of several wins. St Johnstone had freed the attacking midfielder at the end of the season. McGlashan has also agreed terms with Barry Sellars, Robbie Raeside and Paul Lunan for next season and brought in Jamie Redman, an attacking midfielder from Edinburgh University who have been doing well in the East of Scotland League.
Arbroath have arranged a friendly match v Dundee on Monday the 27th of July at Gayfield. Kick off time will be posted once confirmed. Negotiations are ongoing with regards to other friendly matches in the run up to the new season.
Season Tickets for 2009-10 are now available from Gayfield and can be bought on weekday mornings from 9.30am until 1pm. The prices have been held the same as lat year and cost £180 for adults, £90 for OAPs, £60 for Juveniles (Under 16) and £30 for Juniors (Under 12). Season Tickets are valid for all matches, including cup ties for the season.
MG ALBA has confirmed today (Thursday 28th May) that it is to continue its sponsorship of the Scottish Football League Challenge Cup for the 2009 competition. The announcement was made as the draw for the 1st Round of the tournament took place at the SFL offices at Hampden Park.
The tournament, now in its 19th year, will again be known as the ALBA Challenge Cup and will see live televised coverage of one semi-final and the final on BBC ALBA. BBC ALBA is a partnership between MG ALBA and the BBC.
Alasdair Morrison, Chairman of MG ALBA, welcomed the announcement saying “We are delighted to enter into this agreement again with the Scottish Football League which will enable BBC ALBA to offer viewers national coverage of the ALBA Challenge Cup. Working with a national partner such as the Scottish Football League supports our objective of promoting Gaelic at national and community level. Televised coverage of the ALBA Challenge Cup will also bring football at that level to new audiences who rarely see their teams on television.”
Speaking on behalf of the Scottish Football League, Chief Executive David Longmuir said, “We are delighted to welcome MG ALBA as the title sponsor once again of the Challenge Cup. Our aim has always been to improve the coverage and profile of the Challenge Cup and to increase the awareness of the true community spirit attached to the competition. The partnership links the community aims of both organisations and provides live coverage of two very important games in the competition.”
MNE Media will be responsible for providing the coverage of the ALBA Challenge Cup as part of a comprehensive package of programming which they provide to BBC ALBA. Managing Director of MNE Media, Allan MacDonald, said, “Co-operation like this between broadcasters, production companies and sports bodies is good news for the broadcast industry in Scotland and for viewers and sports fans. I am pleased that MNE Media is involved in covering these football games at a time of great opportunity for the production industry, allowing us to record and broadcast more sports coverage than ever before.”

Cusick Interview
IT’S THAT MARCO MOMENT!
(Marc McCulloch writes for the match programme)
Obviously it's great for the team to have put together a
four match unbeaten run, with three wins and a draw against the teams around
us. We are now looking at the teams above us with more confidence and
looking to go out and get as high up the table as possible. The new players
who came in the January window have all settled in now and we are playing
like a team. The boys are very positive but the draw last Saturday against
Stirling Albion felt like a defeat. I'm sure if you'd asked us before the
game if we'd take a 1-1 draw against one of the form teams on their own
ground we'd have grabbed it with both hands, but after dominating the game
for long spells and having a number of chances it felt very much like two
points dropped.
On a personal note it's great to see that John has built
a strong squad for the second division with some excellent players,
unfortunately some of them are not the brightest. One of the next three
stories are true, no prizes but guess which one is false!
I had a conversation with Bryan Scott a couple of weeks
ago on the bus to Stranraer, and asked him what he thought of a ménage a
trios. Bryan's answer was that he had no idea as he didn't like French
food! On the same journey I decided to show my more intelligent side and
tried to have a sensible discussion with Steven Weir. I asked him what his
thoughts were on Euthanasia and he replied that he was more worried about
the youth of Scotland!
To top it all a few weeks ago we played Ayr on a Sunday.
As we had arrived quite early for our pre-match meal, some of the boys
decided to go for a walk to loosen off after the long bus journey. David
McGowan and I were wandering up and down Ayr High Street looking for the
Hotel we had been told to meet at, without any luck. All of a sudden big
David does a U-turn and heads down a side street. I asked him if he had
seen the hotel to which he replied, "No, but there must be hotels down this
street as there is a sign saying Short Stay on it."
John, you've found some players with a bit of ability,
next time can you look for some who have some brains please?
I'd like to welcome Brechin to Gayfield today, one of my old clubs and one
of their players is one of my oldest mates, Charlie King. I believe Charlie
is soon to be granted a Testimonial from Brechin and it's amazing how time
flies. I can remember like it was yesterday, the day he got his first win
bonus after breaking into the first team at St Johnstone. We went shopping
together and Charlie bought himself some leather trousers!

Everyone associated with Arbroath Football
Club were saddened to hear of the passing away of Albert Henderson on
Wednesday lunchtime. Albert will be remembered as one of the longest serving managers in professional football, during an era that many view as a golden age for Scottish Football and Arbroath FC, spanning 18 years. During his reign, which began in 1962, Arbroath were promoted on 2 occasions and enjoyed top flight football for 4 seasons. Older Lichties supporters can recall many memorable matches during this time and particularly the 3-2 win over Rangers at Ibrox in 1974.
Arbroath FC chairman John Christison said, “I’m sure the thoughts of everyone associated with the club are with Doreen and Carol in their loss. “Bert occupies a huge place in the club’s history and he had maintained his links with Gayfield and was always a very welcome visitor here. “When he was able he would attend club dinners and other events and, in the affection he had for Arbroath FC, he was always an absolute gentleman.”
Club Secretary, Gary Callon, spoke of the huge respect that Bert still held across the whole of Scottish Football. "When I first became involved with Arbroath and started visiting away teams across the country, one of the first things I realised was how well known and respected Bert was in my conversations with other Directors and supporters. There would always be someone asking how he was and recalling memorable matches he had been involved in. I particularly remember speaking to Arthur Montford one day about him".

Over 120 years ago Arbroath defeated Aberdeen side Bon Accord 36-0 in a

accuracy of that scoreline. View
