Arbroath Football Club are fully committed to Youth Football and see it as the only way forward for a Club of Arbroath’s size. This commitment does not come cheaply and we currently spend in excess of £30,000 each season running the various age groups.
We have 50 youths on our books at all levels ranging from 11 year old, moving up to the Under 14’s Development Squad, the Under 16’s who play in the SFA Youth Initiative League, and the Under 18’s who compete in the National SFL Youth League.
Our Youths have enjoyed considerable success over the past few seasons, culminating in last years Under 18 side, under the guidance of Coach Gordon Wallace, finishing runners up in the Youth League and reaching the semi- final of the Scottish Cup, only to be beaten on penalties by Ayr United, having already defeated Premier League sides Hearts, Dunfermline & Aberdeen in the previous rounds.
More importantly the development of local players, has seen the likes of Gavin Swankie, Ewan Graham, Paul Durno, Kevin Heenan, Darren Spink & Greg Hensley make the break through to first team level.
This type of Investment takes a considerable amount of money and the Club are seeking Sponsorship from Local Businesses, Club Members, Individuals and Supporters.
Gordon Wallace is busy preparing his new
Under 18's having lost most of the better players due to age last year, this
will be a harder season, with a lot of younger guys, although Baker, Durno, And
Farquarson are still there. This season there is a National SFL League
with each team playing each other once (20 teams in league).
Mike Cargill is moving up to look after the 16's, again another hard season as
most of Mike's squad are only 14 or 15, and can play 2 years at Under 16 level.
Mike is also looking after the Under 14 development squad.
Sponsorship of the Youths are moving along nicely, McDonalds (the restaurant!!)
have sponsored the Under 14's, Elliot Caravan Park (Bert Cargill) has kindly
sponsored Warm Up tops for the 16's & 18's, and former players John Fletcher
& Brian Reid are sponsoring the training kit for both squads. We are still
looking for Kit sponsors at 16 & 18 level and away match sponsors, to cover
the cost of away trips.
As soon as both squad's are finalised details of players will be made available
for sponsorship as well, £50 for 18's and £40 for under 16, this again will
help with training costs and give the potential sponsor an interest in the
development of a youth player hopefully through to first team level.
Individual players can be sponsored for £40 for Under 18’s & £30 for Under 16’s per season. This will help towards their training costs.
Have your own name or House No./Name printed in the match programme alongside the player’s details for the whole season.
