DOWN MEMORY LANE
January 17th 1925 v East Fife (League) at Gayfield
with Davie Dewar
ARBROATH: - Stewart, Robertson, Allison, Wilson, Hamilton, Fox, Smith, Hardie, Junior.
EAST FIFE: - Neish, Wood, Dunsmuir, Cahill, Wilson, Russell, Simpson, Barrett, Weir, Wright, Bell.
There wasnt much of a match report and nothing like the style of todays newspapers. It took the form of a run down of individual players performances. The only description of the match itself was of the goals scored. The visitors were first on the score sheet when Bell lobbed the ball in from the left and Stewarts attempted clearance fell to WRIGHT who scored.
Arbroath equalised after thirty five minutes of play. Junior played in a slanting ball to Hardie who left Russell and Dunsmuir watching on as he squared the ball for DEUCHARS to tip the ball past Neish into the net.
The second half was only three minutes old when Arbroath took the lead. The ball came to Junior but he failed to get proper control and HARDIE stepped and skipped past two defenders. He let rip with an angular drive from the edge of the penalty area and the ball rose past a surprised Neish to hit the roof of the net.
The game was keenly contested to the end but it was Arbroath who gained the victory and the points.
Final Score: - ARBROATH 2 v EAST FIFE 1
