QUEENS PARK: -Chalmers, Stevenson, Maxwell, Orr (J) Elder, Fitzpatrick, McCormick, Caven, McPhee, Orr (G) O’Neill. Subs: - O’Brien, Kavanagh, Mooney.

Arbroath started brightly but Queens had their chances too. After eight minutes, O’Neil touched a long ball on to McPhee and Jackson had to dive to push his sliding effort away. Strachan and McKinnon combined well and Strachan sent over a delightful chip that Chalmers just managed to claw away with Diver rushing in.

Arbroath went ahead in thirty three minutes. Diver was making a run through on goal when he was tackled and the ball broke to McKinnon. He fed the ball through to Diver whose shot was blocked by Chalmers but McKINNON blasted the loose ball into the empty net. The Lichties twice came close to getting a second goal before the interval. First Sorbie headed narrowly over the bar then a deflected shot from the same player had Chalmers scrambling along the goal line to smother the ball.

The second goal did come, in fifty one minutes. Florence took advantage of hesitancy from Stevenson in defence to cut the ball back to Sorbie. His shot hit the underside of the bar and came back out. The ensuing scramble ended with a shot from DIVER low into the corner of the net.

At the other end O’Neil had a shot cleared off the goal line. The visitors tried hard to get back into the game but Arbroath held out for a deserved victory.
