Arbroath had the advantage of a strong wind at their backs in the first half and should have gone ahead in the fifth minute. But a Hyslop’s shot was weak and went behind for a goal kick to the visitors. Harley had a chance in the twentieth minute when he collected a clearance from the home defence but his shot was tipped over the bar by Neilson.

Two minutes later, Gavine came within inches of giving the Lichties the lead. His shot beat Neilson but hit the post and the Brechin defence cleared the rebound to safety.

Early in the second half Ian Campbell had a shot from just outside the penalty area that wasn’t far off the mark. Than Arbroath had a penalty claim when Glover appeared to handle in the box. However the referee waved play on.

In the dying minutes of the game, Lister made a brilliant save from an Ian Campbell volley. With the score tied at 0-0 the only winner in this match was the wind.
