The next home Saturday match at Gayfield is on 9 July when Arbroath welcome Raith Rovers in a pre season friendly. The featured programme is from a previous Scottish League 1st Division match from Saturday 20th November 1976 when Raith Rovers were also the visitors.

How times have changed from that time in 1976 when a trip down the High Street to have a look for your new Ford Capri at Craig’s Garage or a bite to eat at Bert Cargill’s Cafe on the High Street/Applegate. Oh to be able to fill your car up at the ICI Garage and Walkers Service Station in Hume Street where 2 Star petrol was only 76p, 3 Star 77p and 4 Star was a whopping 78p per gallon.

If you happened to walk down a deserted Arbroath High Street on a Saturday night and asked a passer by “Fars Abidy?” the answer would come back straight away “They’re at the Croon”. Sadly one of Arbroaths favourite Pubs “The Crown” is no longer there. It was owned and run by the late Colin McNab who was a wonderful gentleman and many a great Saturday night was spent in the Croon drinking and reading the Sporting Post. I never did win “Spot the Ball” !
