Dick Campbell was dealt a blow with numerous players who had played in Sunday’s win over Motherwell missing tonight, including newest signing Josh Thomson.
Colin Hamilton came close to opening the scoring just ten minutes in but his header from Cavanagh’s corner went past the post.
Cavanagh saw his curled effort touched on to the post by Turriff keeper Kevin Main before firing over on the quarter hour mark.
The visitors came close to scoring the opener in the 28th minute; Allen McKenzie set up Leszek Nowosielski but the latter sent his effort just past Robbie Mutch’s post.
Ogen gave the Lichties the lead in the 38th minute when he raced on to a Cavanagh ball and slotted home past Main.
Cavanagh doubled their advantage shortly before the hour mark, nipping to knock the ball past Main however the goal was marked down as an own goal due to the deflection from Darren Wood.
Turriff pulled a goal back in the 62nd minute when their impressive trialist Christian Langos turned the home defence before rifling past sub keeper Marc McCallum.
Fellow trialist Smith equalised three minutes later after Langos created space in the box to square the ball for the unmarked winger to stab home.
Lichties sub Bobby Linn saw his curled effort hit the base of the post with fifteen minutes left while Cavanagh stung the palms of United sub goalkeeper Matthew Mackie late on as the Lichties piled on pressure to no avail.
